Pantera introduced the GT5-S in 1985 on the heels of a major revision. With its deep front air dam and delta-wing rear spoiler, it represented one of the earliest examples of these aerodynamic devices being applied to passenger car design.

This particular GT5-S is just 1 of 135 ever built and comes from the personal collection of Carroll Shelby. Shelby ditched its Ford V8 and used it as a development prototype for the Dodge Viper. Legend has it, Shelby had been pushing for a twin-turbo 360ci V8 from Chrysler supplied by Lee Iacocca in 1987 for the secret Pantera experiment. 

Fast forward and ultimately, the twin-turbo V8 was nixed in favor of the V10 we see today. Presently, the Pantera has new life thanks to the team at Galpin Auto Sports who discovered and rebuilt the original twin-turbo engine which sat dormant for 30 years but have resurrected the rare GT5-S like Shelby intended. The GT5-S is track-ready and includes upgraded Banks Power twin-turbos, intercoolers and is capable of 1,120 horsepower. – Jason Torchinsky
